COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

As scientific societies working in the life sciences, we support vaccines and vaccine research as essential tools in the fight against disease, including the current pandemic. For the health and safety of our members and community, EB 2022 is requiring all attendees to
be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

COVID-19 Vaccination Validation Process

EB will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination for all participants attending EB 2022. EB has partnered with HealthShield/42Chat to verify participants’ vaccination status.

To verify EB participants’ COVID-19 vaccination status, HealthShield/Chat42 will send a secure link via text message (SMS) to participants after registration. The link will come from number 866-383-2519 and include vaccination upload instructions.

Attendees already registered by mid-January, expect a text message from HealthShield/42Chat (866-383-2519) with vaccination upload instructions around that time. Participants registering after mid-January should receive their validation text within hours of completing registration.

Note: Cell phone numbers must be unique and cannot be re-used for multiple registrants. EB will collect your cell phone number during registration and use it for vaccine validation purposes only.

If you do not have a cell phone and/or cannot receive texts, please enter all 0’s in the required cell phone field. If HealthShield/42Chat cannot reach you via text message, EB will contact you at a later time about an alternative method to provide proof of vaccination.

FAQ

Do EB 2022 participants have to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend?
Yes. All attendees will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend EB 2022.

By what date do I need to be vaccinated to attend EB 2022?
Participants should complete their final vaccine by March 19, 2022, to be considered fully vaccinated for EB 2022.  As of December 2021, fully vaccinated is defined by the CDC as two weeks after a second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. Should that change, EB 2022 will follow the CDC definition of fully vaccinated.

How do I verify my COVID-19 vaccination to attend EB 2022?
To verify your vaccination status, expect to receive a secure link via text message to the cell phone number you provided during registration. Be on the lookout for the text starting in mid-January. If you do not have a cell phone, cannot receive text messages, or we are unable to reach you via text, EB will email you an alternate method to verify your vaccination status.

Will I also need to provide proof of a COVID-19 booster shot to attend EB?
As of December 2021, fully vaccinated is defined by the CDC as two weeks after the final dose of a 2-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose approved vaccine. Should that change, EB 2022 will follow the CDC definition of fully vaccinated.

Can I attend with proof of a negative COVID-19 test instead of proof of vaccination against COVID-19?
No. A negative COVID-19 test will not be accepted as a substitution for being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Will exceptions to your COVID-19 vaccine requirement be accepted?
No. Exceptions cannot be accommodated.

Are masks required at EB 2022?
Based on current local regulations and CDC guidelines, masks are no longer required when indoors. However, wearing masks is still strongly encouraged while attending EB 2022.

Will sessions and conference activities be socially distanced?

EB will provide spaced seating in sessions as space allows. Attendees are encouraged to spread out while attending non-session programming such as visiting the Exhibit Hall, talking to Poster Presenters, and attending the Welcome Reception.

What happens if someone does not comply with EB 2022 health and safety measures?
Health and safety measures implemented by EB 2022 before the meeting or onsite are subject to change. Failure to adhere to EB 2022 health and safety measures may result in prohibiting entry to show or removal from the conference.

  • Trip Cancellation, if, for example, you must cancel your trip after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

  • Trip Interruption, if, for example, during your trip you are specifically named and individually ordered to quarantine (not including general or broadly applicable quarantines).

  • Travel Delay, if, for example, you are denied boarding based on a suspicion that you are ill with an epidemic disease such as COVID-19.

  • Emergency Medical Care, if, for example, you are diagnosed with COVID-19 and need to be hospitalized while traveling.

  • Emergency Transportation, if, for example, you’re diagnosed with an epidemic disease such as COVID-19 while you’re traveling, and you require an emergency medical evacuation.

These policies are widely available from any number of companies that specialize in travel insurance.

If you experience any symptoms before picking up your conference badge or develop symptoms while onsite, do not enter the conference space. Please get tested at one of Philadelphia’s COVID-19 testing sites (fees may apply). If you test positive for COVID-19 while attending EB, please contact EB.
